I'm off to AMRA 2007, FERC Commissioner Jon Wellinghoff will be giving a keynote. He recently wrote a piece in SFGate discussing how we can reduce carbon footprint by dropping load. He specifically mentioned smart meters. That's all great, but my question for the FERC however, is what about the transmission system? Just a few years ago, our transmission system was reaching capacity in many areas. Lots of projects are going on, but is it no longer a huge problem - or is it that even FERC is getting caught up in smart meter bandwagon.
No doubt smart metering is a component to reducing transmission congestion, but is that enough?
