Lights Out - a Book Review

Lights Out: The Electricity Crisis, the Global Economy, and What it Means to You. The subtitle pretty much sums it up. This book provides a good, and very current overview of the industry. The author is pessimistic about the future, but with global warming, aging transmission system, aging workforce, and no place to put nuclear fuel, what is there to be optimistic about? The author is pro-microgrid, pro-federalization of the transmission system. The book also comments on the alarming trend of engineering interests taking a back seat to financial interests. That will need to swing the other way if the lights are going to stay on.

Rather than bore you with the details, just buy the book. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in evaluating a point of view of the power grid, and understanding industry drivers for this decade and beyond. get the book here.
